Sustainable pathways toward the next generation of Horticulture - examples in the Netherlands
1. In 2018, it has been reported in the China Agriculture Yearbook that the flower planting area in facility horticulture reached 120 thousands ha, and 30% of them are planted in the greenhouse or solar greenhouse. In addition, there are already over 9 thousands ha of glass greenhouse equipped with advanced technology (smart glass greenhouse) in China. In the future, the planting area of flowers in the smart glass greenhouse can be increased because of the increasing needs for high-quality flowers in the Chinese market. However, the cost for constructing and operating, and the resources consumption for the smart glass greenhouse is considerable. It is challenge to increase the sustainability for the horticulture sector in the future. Therefore, the seminar focuses on introducing possible pathways to increase the sustainability of the horticulture by innovative technologies and services. Leading companies in the horticulture sector from the Netherlands will present their innovations and services during the seminar, and this can be used as an inspiration for developing pathways to increase the suitability of horticultural industry in China.
